Force a Reboot From a Blue Screen
If you have spent any time working with NT then you will have seen the Blue Screen that NT displays when the OS crashes. This is sometimes useful for debugging purposes but if your server is in production then the last thing you want is it to be sitting there with the Blue Screen being displayed.

A much better options would be to log the error and then reboot so that the server is at least up and working. If you want to force NT to reboot after a crash then follow the following steps:

  1. Backup Your Registry
  2. Open RegEdit
  3. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\CrashControl\
  4. Set the Autoreboot attribute to 1
  5. Close RegEdit

Once you have changed this value whenever NT crashes it will write the log file and then reboot itself.
